About
August 11, 2009
I created Little Nutmeg because I absolutely cherish reading great books with my kiddos. Next to reading with my own kids, my next favorite thing to do is visit the local book store, library, or browse online selecting books for other little ones. The highest compliment you can give me is to tell me how much your child enjoyed my selection.
My little ones, Wiley* (almost 6) and Piper* (just shy of one year) are in much different places when it comes to reading and appreciating books and yet we manage to pass many a carefree afternoon on the floor surrounded by picture books of all kinds. It never ceases to amaze me how we all seem to get something from the experience. One thing I have learned along the way is that it’s really not about how many BOOKS you read, but how many CONVERSATIONS you have with your children about the books. [more on that topic here ].
I continue to discover more about the process of deciphering “the code” that unlocks reading for children while creating a lifelong appreciation of books and learning along the way. I hope I can share a little bit of this joy with you. I hope you’ll share a little too by way of comments.
You may notice that some of the books I recommend on this blog are linked to Amazon.com for purchase. If you purchase a book after clicking on the link, Amazon pays me a very small percentage. Right now (and for the foreseeable future), 100 percent of the proceeds I receive from this web site go to purchasing books for children who have been the victim of abuse. The idea that someone could harm a child in this way absolutely breaks my heart and I thank my luck stars that there are organizations like this that exist to serve this need. I hope with a gift of a wonderful picture book maybe, just maybe, I can ease a child’s mind and help them forget their ordeal for a moment.
Thanks for stopping by! You can also keep up with Little Nutmeg on Twitter and FaceBook–see the links in the right column–>
